HISTORY: The J-K Heritage Foundation was established January 15, 2009. Local residents gathered and organized in response to an effort from the City of Kendrick to demolish the town’s 100-year old historic train depot. Despite the many challenges we faced to preserve the depot, we strongly believed its restoration would have been an important asset to Kendrick and the Potlatch Valley’s historical heritage as well as an economic asset. Our year-long effort failed. By January 26, 2010, the depot had been completely demolished. The city quickly replaced the site with two RV pads situated along our Potlatch River waterfront. The following link, Award, informs you about the coveted award that JKHF received related to our Kendrick Depot preservation effort. We are now a recognized IRS public charity nonprofit historical body. We speak for the citizens in the small rural towns of Kendrick and Juliaetta Idaho as well as the folks who live on our surrounding seven ridges. Our volunteers administer local historical services to 1500 households covering 270 square miles. Kendrick and Juliaetta, separated by four miles, are North Central Idaho communities with many of their 1,000 total residents working in Moscow or Lewiston. Farms, forests, and ranches are intermingled on the scenic ridges. Families continue to manage homesteads acquired in the 1800’s. We are the first organization to exclusively document and collect history relating to this area. Due to the enthusiasm, support and creativity of our members and community we have many credits to our name and diverse irons in the fire. A click on accomplishment timeline documents our numerous triumphs. Project plans are outlined: 3-year Plan (2011 - 2014) . Volunteers are our preferred project providers. Annual membership dues, memorials, general donations, and publication sales are depended upon for operating. Our public nonprofit status allows donors to use the value of their JKHF gift as a federal tax deduction. Please let us know how we can partner with you to provide historic preservation needs and opportunities to our area. Many Thanks to our 2011 Contributors-- Each have propelled us toward numerous successes!
